Our 11th-grade students are currently in the United States as part of their annual Study Trip, an integral component of the TJSS academic curriculum. Following a packed first week of historical, cultural, and sightseeing activities, students are now embarking on a two-week immersive English language experience, attending local high schools and living with American host families.
This year, a record-breaking 52 students are participating in the trip—a historic milestone for Thomas Jefferson STEM School!
During their first week, the group stayed in Washington, D.C., visiting world-renowned cultural institutions including the National Museum of Natural History, the National Gallery of Art, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of American History, and the National Air and Space Museum. Students also visited the Holocaust Memorial, as well as the Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein memorials.
Additional highlights included a Washington night tour, guided visits to the U.S. Capitol, Washington National Cathedral, and the Library of Congress, a scenic Potomac River water taxi ride, and an exciting live NBA game (Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks).
The group then traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia, home to Thomas Jefferson’s historic Monticello estate—a deeply meaningful landmark for our school community. While in Charlottesville, students also dined at the historic Michie Tavern and toured the University of Virginia.
For the next leg of the journey, the delegation split into three groups heading to San Francisco, Minnesota, and Cleveland.
Our students are currently attending host high schools and experiencing full cultural immersion across four partner campuses:
