History

Thomas Jefferson STEM School was founded by Gregory L. Trzebiatowski, Ph.D., a professional educator.

He received his basic education in Wisconsin public schools. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a PhD in Education from Michigan State University, thanks to a National Defense Education Act scholarship.

At Michigan State, Dr. Trzebiatowski specialized in Educational Technology, Curriculum, and Educational Research. During the summer of 1980, he attended the Institute for Educational Administration at Harvard University, a training program for future university presidents, jointly organized by Harvard Business School and Harvard Graduate School of Education.

"The history and legacy of The Thomas Jefferson STEM School: From its humble beginnings to its current prestige"

In March 1993, The Thomas Jefferson STEM School began its academic activities with 64 students distributed across four grades, from Preschool to First Grade, with nine teachers, including teachers, preschool teachers, and assistants, a learning specialist, a secretary, and an administrative assistant. At that time, we had only one building, which contained four classrooms, a small gymnasium, and two offices.

The name of our school was chosen in honor of Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States. The name of the Monticello Campus is the name of the location of Jefferson's home in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In 1992, lot number 26 was purchased, and in 1994, lot number 27. This marked the beginning of the remodeling of the building, which bears the name Amelia Brychell, in honor of the mother of our headmaster, who strongly supported this project from its inception. Throughout these years we have received a large number of visitors from North America, who have contributed to the bilingual education of our students.

The success of TJSS school: Growth, Achievements and Educational Leadership

Today we are very proud to have around 1,080 students in our classrooms, from preschool through twelfth grade, and a staff of approximately 140 people, including teachers, educators, assistants, administrative personnel, and cleaning and maintenance staff.

To date, 20 graduating classes have completed their twelfth year of high school, many of whom are now studying at prestigious universities in our country and even in the United States.

The location of TJSS, near Carriel Sur Airport, was chosen because it is a central area between the cities of Concepción, Talcahuano, and San Pedro de la Paz. The school's facilities have expanded according to the needs generated by the growing student body. Currently, TJSS operates on 3.8 hectares and in seven main buildings.
